Mozilla are offering HTML5 app developers free Firefox OS phones to prompt them to start creating apps
The scheme, called Phones for Apps for Firefox OS, tempts developers with the chance of getting their hands on the new phone from Mozilla, the Geeksphone Keon.
Mozilla employee, Havi Hoffman, posted on Mozilla's blog to inform users, "Wherever you are, if you can show you've got a great app idea and the skill to build it, we'd love to see your apps in the Marketplace when the Firefox OS launch begins later this summer."
The preview phone, developed by Geeksphone in partnership with Telefonica, will be sent to successful app developers when their proposal is accepted.
Developers have been invited since the beginning of the year to try out the browser-based Firefox OS Simulator to view and test their mobile app on the desktop. Preview phones are also already available to purchase, the Keon for €91, or Peak for €149.
The program will finish at the end of May or when the supply of Geeksphone Keon's runs out. Developers are limited to one phone per app proposal.
Sony have also announced that a device running Mozilla's Firefox OS will be coming next year.
The new OS from Mozilla is designed to work with less power and cost less for sale in developing countries.
