Three has waived the one-off cost of owning Sony’s latest flagship smartphone – the Xperia Z - on its most popular pay-monthly deals.
The Xperia Z is now free (previously £69) on Three’s Ultimate Internet 500 tariff for £34 per month and The One Plan for £36 a month – both on a 24-month term.
The former entitles punters to monthly allowances of all-you-can-eat data, 500 minutes and 5,000 texts. The latter also offers unlimited mobile internet and 5,000 texts, but takes things up a notch with 2,000 minutes and 5,000 Three-to-Three minutes.
If you want to snap up the handset on pay as you go, however, you’ll have to shell out £449.99.
Launched just over a month ago, the Xperia Z packed full of drool-worthy specs, including five-inch 1080p display with Sony’s Mobile Engine 2 technology, a 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor and a 13-megapixel camera that shoots in full HD and supports HDR video recording as well.
Elsewhere, it packs 16GB of onboard storage, 4G support, which means it will be compatible with Three’s soon-to-launch LTE network and Near Field Communication (NFC) technology for fast wireless payments with just a swipe of the handset.
The Xperia Z’s real selling points, however, are that it’s certified water resistant and can be submerged in one metre of water for up to 30 minutes. It’s also dust-resistant and is protected by a shatterproof and scratch-resistant tempered glass on both sides.
Three’s price drop comes just days before the just-announced Samsung Galaxy S4 goes on pre-order.
Samsung’s fourth flagship smartphone is due for release in late April.
