The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is currently in development and will sport a 5.9-inch touch display, according to reports out of Korea.
An article in the Korea Times claims the word comes direct from Samsung itself and the company is said to have specified it is working on a 5.9-inch Galaxy Note successor to appear ‘in the latter half of the year’.
The report indicates it will still use Super AMOLED display technology and will have the Exynos 5 Octa eight-core processor chip previously announced by Samsung and rumoured for the Galaxy S4 flagship. The details were allegedly confirmed by a Samsung ‘official’ who did not wish to be named.
Apparently we will not see the debut of Samsung’s flexible display technology with this handset.
The news contradicts earlier rumours which suggested Samsung might expand the size of a Galaxy Note successor from the Galaxy Note 2’s 5.5-inches to 6.3-inches, although this sparked concern from some corners that the device would become unmanageably bulky.
Chinese manufacturers are now producing larger devices to compete, including Huawei’s Ascend Mate, but the larger 6.1-inch size was found to be a bit too unwieldy by many critics.
There wasn't much more info in the report regarding possible specs for the Galaxy Note 3. We're hopeful we'll see a display resolution increase in-line with newly released flagships, so perhaps even a Full HD 1080p resolution and a high-300's pixel-per-inch pixel density. We'd expect at least 2GB of RAM and likely similar camera technology to whatever the Galaxy S4 is packing, which is said to be a 13-megapixel snapper.
At Mobile World Congress 2013, Samsung launched the Galaxy Note 8.0, an 8-inch tablet version of the Galaxy Note concept, sitting between the existing Galaxy Note 2 and the larger Galaxy Note 10.1-inch tablet. All Galaxy Note devices come with an S-Pen stylus and Wacom digitiser input.
