Video chat glasses designed by Docomo have been recently unveiled at the CEATEC conference in Japan. The main appeal of the device is that it maps the user’s face in real time and then projects a fully synced on-screen avatar instead of the user’s real image. With the help of the rear-camera, capturing and projecting the background that the wearer is sitting in, it is possible to deliver a video stream of an unreal-looking avatar in a real environment. The developers hope their invention to encourage more users overcome their timidity and engage video chat on a larger scale. The video chat glasses are planned to be brought to the commercial market within five years.
